When I was visiting his 6th grade geography
class, I first heard the name, “Mr. Simmons”. He was having some
trouble with his computer. I thought to myself “this guy
obviously has no idea what he’s doing”. Little did
I know that next year he was to be the “tech guy”,
and knew more about Macintosh Computers then I ever will.
The next year in 7th grade, he was my social studies teacher.
I enjoyed his class, and his teasing remarks about my Dell
computer. He would say to me “Donenfeld, that Dell logo
is starring me right in the face, yuck!” His class was
exciting and I learned a lot about our government. As the year
came to an end, the 7th grade went on the Adventure Treaks
trip, led by Mr. Simmons. We learned that he was not only a
great teacher, but an experienced outdoors man.
This year, 8th grade, Mr. Simmons was moved over into the
Upper School computer lab. For my first year on the tennis
team, he was a great coach. He was enthusiastic and helped
the team earn runner up in the tournament. He also organized
and worked on the yearbook.
Mr. Simmons is the kind of teacher that is easy to get to
know. Time after time, people are hanging out in the tech office
or computer lab at fruit break, just to talk to him and to
hear about his daily adventures. Mr. Simmons is moving to Denver,
Colorado this summer where he will be working at a similar
middle school. It will be a disappointment to loose Mr. Simmons
from the Seven Hills Community. |
